Editing questions in live assessments that already have submissions can be done, but it is strongly discouraged due to the confusion it can cause for students.
When you edit an OUP-provided question, the system makes a new copy of that question that is now your version of the question. (You can see this in the question title—characters are appended.) So, if you do this to a live assessment, students who took the assessment before your edit will have seen and answered a different question. Their submissions won’t match the latest version of the question, causing score mismatch problems.
For Questions You Have Created:
- Edit the question.
- Click Re-grade on the question, in the question list.
- In the pop-up, confirm the updated version.
- Click Update.
Note: Re-grading may take time if there are many submissions.
For OUP-Provided Questions:
- Editing creates a copy with a new title.
- This can be done before submissions with no issues.
- If done after, it can cause confusion and scoring problems. If you must do this, these are your options:
- Give full credit to all students for that question via the Grading Center.
- Let students re-take the assessment.
