{"id":281,"date":"2026-03-27T11:42:29","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T11:42:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/support.insight.oup.com\/?p=281"},"modified":"2026-05-12T19:46:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T19:46:57","slug":"missing-submissions-scored","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/support.insight.oup.com\/ru\/instructor-support\/missing-submissions-scored\/","title":{"rendered":"How are missing submissions scored?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a due date has passed on an Insight assignment, the Insight Gradebook displays a zero for that assignment for any student who has not yet submitted. These automatically-displayed zeroes DO NOT sync to the LMS\/VLE gradebook automatically. (This is because automatic sync happens only when a submission is received from a student, and in the case of a zero for a missing submission, there is no actual submission.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To account for this, it is recommended that you set your LMS gradebook to automatically apply a zero for missing submissions. This setting can be applied as follows in the different LMSs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Canvas:<\/strong> Grades -&gt; Gradebook Settings -&gt; Automatically apply grade for missing submissions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Blackboard:<\/strong> Gradebook -&gt; Gradebook Settings -&gt; Assign automatic zeros for past due work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>D2L\/Brightspace:<\/strong> Grades -&gt; Settings -&gt; Calculation Options -&gt; Automatic Zero for Missing Submissions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Moodle:<\/strong> Varies across different versions of Moodle.
