When a due date has passed on an Insight assignment, the Insight Gradebook displays a zero for that assignment for any student who has not yet submitted. These automatically-displayed zeroes DO NOT sync to the LMS/VLE gradebook automatically. (This is because automatic sync happens only when a submission is received from a student, and in the case of a zero for a missing submission, there is no actual submission.)

To account for this, it is recommended that you set your LMS gradebook to automatically apply a zero for missing submissions. This setting can be applied as follows in the different LMSs:

  • Canvas: Grades -> Gradebook Settings -> Automatically apply grade for missing submissions
  • Blackboard: Gradebook -> Gradebook Settings -> Assign automatic zeros for past due work
  • D2L/Brightspace: Grades -> Settings -> Calculation Options -> Automatic Zero for Missing Submissions
  • Moodle: Varies across different versions of Moodle. Please check with your Moodle Administrator about how to set a missing submission policy for your course.

If for any reason you are not seeing the correct zero values in your LMS gradebook, you can perform a manual grade sync as follows:

  1. Go to Instructor Tools -> LTI Sync Manager.
  2. Select all assignments, then click “Next.”
  3. Select all students, then click “Next.”
  4. Click to confirm and proceed with the sync.
  5. Allow the sync to finish before you close the window or navigate away.
