[Please Note: Assignment-specific late work settings were deprecated in May 2026 due to conflicts and confusion with course-wide late work policy settings.]
You cannot set a late work policy for an individual assignment. A late work policy can only be set course-wide. (See How do I set my course to automatically accept late submissions for all assignments?)
If you wish to allow a specific student to submit an assignment past the due date, there are two options:
Set an Override for that Student on that Assignment (applies to only the one specific assignment):
- Go to the Gradebook.
- In the cell that corresponds to the score for the relevant assignment for the student, click the three dots on the right side, and select Manage Overrides.
- Set the desired student-specific settings for Open Date, Due Date, Close Date, Submission Attempts, and/or Time Limit for the assignment.
- Click Save Changes.
Set Accommodations for the Student (applies to all assignments in the course):
- Go to Instructor Tools → Enrollments.
- Select the relevant student.
- Click the Actions menu and select Accommodations.
- Set the desired settings for Due Date Extension, Close Date Extension, Additional Submissions, and/or Time Limit Increase Factor for that student.
- Click Save.
